Michelle’s first experience of Yoga, at 19 years of age was Sivananda Yoga in Kerala, India. She has since practiced different
yoga styles, mostly Iyengar, to finally be trained at 41 years of age by a Physiotherapist at Core Yoga Studios, Brisbane
Australia; a beautiful integration of Eastern Yogic wisdom and modern Western medicine. Despite having only completed
her Yoga Teacher Training in 2016, she has taught Yoga and stretch classes throughout the last 20 years.
Yoga has been an invaluable tool which has enabled her to [or at least try to] maintain mind-body-spirit balance throughout her life. She is passionate about supporting people [beginners and intermediate alike] in creating and
sustaining a safe practice. And her mission is to inspire people, drawing on the full spectrum of Yogic Knowledge to experience
and remember that we have the tools within to keep the mind-body-spirit balanced.
She is deeply serious about yoga, but her classes can be light, fun, insightful, well-sequenced and always have a unique twist.
Modern day practice:
The way we live now is not the same as 1000 years ago- so we also cannot practice yoga as we did 1000 years ago. Modern life means people sit in chairs 8+ hours a day and too often our nervous systems are in Fight or flight mode.
Modern yoga needs to be adapted to these conditions, especially to practice safely and prevent injury.
Yoga is for everyone and is not necessarily about being able to do the most complex balance or how close you can bring your head to your feet.
Yoga is a way of life, and the physical Asanas are only one small part. Pranayama/Meditation/Mindfulness on and off the mat are part of what it’s all about. Culturing your compassion,
understanding & non-violence are all part of the bigger picture.
Yoga with Michelle:
The Thursday night Class at Infinity-Sunlight is for everyone. All ages welcome from 14 to 104. It will be a medium paced beginner/general flow to open and
strengthen the body. Leaving you feeling gently activated, grounded and ready for a good nights rest.
Michelle’s classes focus on breath, alignment and the interconnection between mind, body and spirit, allowing students to work at their own pace in a safe and transformational environment. Often sharing a self-
care technique and educating about our mechanics and functionality along the way. Time permitting, pranayama, meditation and knowledge of yogic principles will also be shared.
